Thank you for your interest in contributing to The Modern Folio Quarterly. We are committed to providing a welcoming space for readers, writers, poets, artists, and creatives. Please review the following policies before submitting your work.
Originality & Previously Published Work
The Modern Folio Quarterly seeks original work. We prefer unpublished submissions and encourage contributors to disclose any previous publication history associated with a submitted piece.
Work that has appeared in print publications, literary journals, magazines, anthologies, or commercial publications may not be eligible for consideration. Personal blogs, personal websites, newsletters, and social media postings may be considered on a case-by-case basis and should be disclosed at the time of submission.
Simultaneous Submissions
Simultaneous submissions are welcome.
If your work is accepted elsewhere while under consideration by The Modern Folio, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may withdraw it from consideration.
Rights & Copyright
Authors retain full copyright ownership of their work at all times.
By submitting to The Modern Folio Quarterly, contributors grant the magazine First Electronic Rights and the non-exclusive right to publish the accepted work within the magazine and its associated digital platforms, including promotional materials related to the publication.
Upon publication, all rights revert immediately to the author. Should the work be republished elsewhere in the future, we kindly request acknowledgment of The Modern Folio as the place of first publication.
Editing Policy
Accepted submissions may undergo minor copyediting for grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and style consistency.
Significant editorial changes will never be made without the contributor’s knowledge and approval. Contributors will be contacted if substantial revisions are requested prior to publication.
Withdrawal Policy
Contributors may withdraw their work from consideration at any time prior to acceptance.
If a submission is accepted elsewhere, contributors are expected to notify The Modern Folio Quarterly promptly.
Once a piece has entered final production for publication, withdrawal requests may not be accommodated.
Content Standards
The Modern Folio Quarterly welcomes diverse voices, perspectives, experiences, and creative approaches. However, we do not consider:
- Plagiarized work
- Content that infringes upon copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property rights
- Hate speech or targeted harassment
- Explicit pornography
- Material created primarily to promote violence, discrimination, or unlawful activity

Artwork & Photography
Contributors submitting artwork or photography must own the rights to all submitted material and have permission to use any recognizable subjects, locations, or elements contained within the work when applicable.
By submitting visual artwork, contributors grant The Modern Folio Quarterly permission to reproduce the work in connection with publication of the magazine and promotional materials related to the publication.
Editorial Discretion
