The Modern Folio Quarterly is a collection of poetry, short stories, essays, artwork, and thoughts submitted by the community. Its intention is to provide an avenue for writers and artists to share their work without the cost and trouble that often comes with traditional publishing.
Created as an extension of The Modern Folio, the magazine serves as a seasonal showcase of creative voices, emerging talent, and meaningful stories. Whether submitted by a first-time writer, a seasoned author, or an artist seeking to share their work, each contribution helps create a diverse collection of perspectives, experiences, and ideas.
At its heart, The Modern Folio Quarterly exists to celebrate creativity, encourage community, and provide a welcoming space where stories, art, and expression can be shared and preserved.
Format & Submission Guidelines
All word count limits and dimension minimums are intended to help keep the magazine in proper format and within the proper size for quality and printing purposes. Caps on submissions and entries are meant to ensure that all applicants have a fair shot at being selected as well as to promote variety in the magazine. At the moment, there are no limits on the number of submissions an individual may make. However, submitting multiple pieces does not guarantee that more than one piece will be accepted. We reserve the right to revise this policy for future issues based on submission volume. Check back often as these guidelines are subject to change as the magazine grows. Please direct all inquiries to magazine@themodernfolio.com.

Up to 2,000 words per piece
Poetry

Up to 50 lines per piece
Short Fiction & Creative Nonfiction
Submit as PDF to preserve formatting
Up to 3,000 words per piece
Artwork & Photography
Submit as PNG or JPG/JPEG to preserve image quality
Minimum 2550 × 3300 pixels at 300 DPI (8.5 × 11 inches at print quality)

How to submit your work
We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with the online submission form. While we work to resolve the issue, we will be accepting submissions by email. Please send your submission(s) to magazine@themodernfolio.com and include the following:
– Your name
– Title of your work
– Type of submission (poetry, short fiction & creative nonfiction, essays & editorials, artwork & photography, or other)
– Your file(s)
– A short blurb or bio about yourself
– What is the inspiration behind the piece(s) you are submitting?
– Your links (social media handles or your creator website)
